Reducing the Risk for Colorectal Cancer

March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness month, and TRICARE wants you to take action to help reduce your risk of developing this disease. The tests for colorectal cancer covered by TRICARE include: (1) fecal occult blood testing (annually beginning at age 50); (2) proctosigmoidoscopy or sigmoidoscopy (every three to five years beginning at age 50); and colonoscopy every 10 years for beneficiaries age 50 and older who are at normal risk. If you do note symptoms, such as changes in bowel habits or rectal bleeding, speak with you health care provider right away. For more information concerning benefit coverage, call your TRICARE primary care manager or your regional contractor.
