It is important to contact your local VA office immediately after retirement or transfer from duty to see if you are eligible for a disability award. The criteria for a VA disability award may be different from military criteria. The Department of Defense has two programs designed to reduce the reduction in retired pay due to receipt of Veteran Administration compensation, for certain disabled retirees that include (1) Concurrent Retirement and Disability Payments (CRDP) and (2) Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC).
