Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) usually causes respiratory illness in children under two years of age. It occurs primarily from November through April. Almost all children are infected with the virus by their second birthday, but only a small percentage develop severe disease. The illness typically begins four to six days after exposure with a runny nose and decreased appetite. There is no specific treatment other than the care of symptoms, but the physician will determine the best care plan for your child. For more information, visit the Centers for Disease Control's RSV webpage.
