Obtaining W-2 Forms

You may need a W-2 form to file your income tax return. Your employer is required to give you copies of your W-2 form by January 31. If you have not received a W-2 form yet from an employer, you should contact the employer and see if you can resolve the issue together. If that does not work, contact the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). The IRS will ask you for some information and will then contact the employer and request the form. These rules also apply if you received a W-2 form from your employer, but the information on it was incorrect. For more information, visit the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov/.
