October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month,sponsored by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA). Here are some tips to help protect you and your family: (1) Always know who you are dealing with online -- don't open unsolicited e-mails or go to websites that look suspicious.
(2) Keep Web browsers and operating systems up to date.
(3) Back up important files to CDs, thumb drives or external hard drives at least once a month.
(4) Protect your children online.
(5) Use security software tools as your first line of defense.
(6) Use strong passwords or strong authentication technology to help protect personal information.
(7) Learn what to do if something goes wrong.
