Week of November 09, 2009
On Jan. 9, 2009, Vivian and Matt White's 19-year-old son, Brian, was deployed with his unit to Iraq. Vivian measured the distance from the family's home in Charleston, Ill. to where Brian was stationed near Kirkuk, Iraq -- 6,436 miles away. The White family devised a goal to run the 6,436 miles before Brian came home from his one-year deployment. Now, more than 400 runners/walker/bikers from 45 states are a part of running for Brian's "family." Currently Brian's family has run 3,252 miles and the community family has run 128,227 miles in support of Soldiers. To learn more, visit the Miles for Brian website.
