Here are some tips to promote healthy eating habits in children: (1) assess your eating habits and how they may be affecting your children; (2) consume foods you wish your child to consume; (3) avoid using food as a reward; (4) if the child does not readily respond to a new food item, keep offering it, but also have an alternative item to consume; (5) cut down on fat intake; (6) avoid giving children "empty calorie" foods and beverages; (7) set aside times for family meals; (8) limit meals away from home; (9) get children involved with grocery shopping and cooking; and (10) ensure your child is not watching television, using a computer or playing video games while consuming food.
