Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy has signed a law requiring the Department of Veterans' Affairs to establish a Connecticut women veterans' program. The program also must submit recommendations annually for improving benefits and services for women veterans. Federal Veterans Affairs officials estimate 16,545 women veterans live in Connecticut. Some struggle with issues such as unemployment, homelessness and mental illness.
