A Federal Judge ruled that he lacks the legal authority to force the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to immediately treat war veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Judge Samuel Conti of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California also ruled that he could not order the VA to overhaul its internal systems that handle benefits claims and medical services for war veterans. The veterans advocacy groups Veterans for Common Sense (VCS) and Veterans United for Truth had filed a lawsuit last year. For more information, visit the Veterans for Common Sense website and read the entire 82-page ruling in PDF format.
