Officials from the U.S. Transportation Command and the Army's Military Surface Distribution and Deployment Command announced the initial rollout of the Defense Personal Property System, or DPS. DPS is the automated management system for movement of household goods for members of the Armed Services and government civilians. The system automates much of the process of pre-move counseling, scheduling, tracking, invoicing and claims filing for household goods shipments. DPS operations will begin Sept. 10, 2008 at 18 transportation offices designated in conjunction with their service headquarters and will be available to transportation offices worldwide Jan. 22, 2009.
