Exchanges Recall Mussels

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to eat certain frozen cooked mussels products from Bantry Bay Seafood because they may be contaminated with azaspiracid toxins, a group of naturally occurring marine toxins known to cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. As a result, the Defense Commissary Agency has removed the following Bantry Bay frozen cooked products from its shelves with "Best before end" dates ranging from Jan. 23, 2009, to Nov. 15, 2009: (1) Mussels in a Garlic Butter Sauce, UPC 804111 00001 6, (2) Mussels in White Wine Sauce, UPC 8 04111 00043 6, and (3) Mussels in Tomato & Garlic Sauce, UPC 8 04111 00011 5. These products are sold frozen in 1-pound cardboard packages in stores throughout the United States. Products to be thrown out are marked with "best before end" dates  Jan. 23, 2009 - Nov. 11, 2009. Commissary customers can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
