DoD Uses New Method of Flu Protection
Week of November 27, 2006
An intranasal mist called FluMist has replaced the flu shot that most servicemembers have become accustomed to. The process of receiving the vaccine is very simple. The servicemember simply goes to the medical facility that they use for their primary health care and signs in to receive the mist. Next, they must answer a quick questionnaire, which will determine if they are eligible for the mist. The mist is applied through a syringe that pushes the medication into the nostrils as a fine mist, similar to other nasal spray medicines. All servicemembers are required to receive their flu vaccinations.
