DOD Releases Report on Infectious Diseases
Week of October 23, 2006
"Gulf War and Health: Volume 5, Infectious Diseases," is the fifth report in a series and focuses on infectious diseases by identifying nine diseases and 34 different long-term health effects that might appear weeks to years after initial infection. IA 1998 Congressional mandate required the VA to contract with the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine to use a specific procedure to determine the illnesses that warrant a presumption of connection to service in the 1991 Gulf War. The report can be read online at the National Academies Press website.
