Department of Defense (DoD) officials are currently working with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) staff to expand the Disability Evaluation System pilot program. This will help servicemembers obtain faster access to TRICARE and other health care and VA benefits by developing a single medical examination used by both DoD and VA officials, with a single source disability evaluation done by VA and accepted by DoD. The pilot is slated to be expanded to 19 additional installations through June 1, 2009. For more information about TRICARE visit the TRICARE website. For more information about veteran benefits, visit Military.com's Veterans Benefits Administration website.
