Commissaries Recall Some Tomatoes

Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) officials pulled certain types tomatoes off the shelves of military commissaries -- except those in Europe -- after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning that a recent salmonella outbreak has been linked to particular raw red tomatoes. Commissaries outside Europe stopped selling red plum, Roma, or round red tomatoes unless they originate from an "approved area." No sales restrictions have been placed on cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, or tomatoes sold with the vine still attached since these types are not likely to be the source of the outbreak. For more information on the FDA warning, visit the Food and Drug Administration website.
