SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- Sailors from USS Ronald Reagan and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 14, who just returned home after a six-month deployment, will be featured in an exclusive cover feature in the February issue of Muscle and Fitness magazine, which hits newsstands December 22.

A crew from Muscle & Fitness caught up with Ronald Reagan in September while the ship was conducting flight operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in the Gulf of Oman.

Ronald Reagan and CVW-14 Sailors were photographed and interviewed during and after their workout regimens. Muscle and Fitness also were interested in the ship's wellness program, including dietary considerations and a full-time fitness and wellness coordinator, or "Fit Boss."

"We're trying to redefine the fitness culture of the ship," said Ronald Reagan Fit Boss Britt Callison, a civilian contractor and certified personal trainer who has helped to develop several classes and group fitness programs to encourage regular exercise at sea.

"In the real world, it's hard enough to schedule time for the gym," said M&F senior editor Eric Velazquez. "But when your job requires physically carrying around 500-pound bombs or pulling injured pilots out of harm's way, getting and staying fit takes on a whole new meaning. Our three days at sea with them were incredibly inspiring."

One Sailor featured in the magazine is Aviation Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class Eric Olmstead, a former champion power-lifter who now has a heavy responsibility working with the ship's arresting gear.

"My job can be very physical at times, for sure," he said. "It was really cool to be interviewed and photographed by Muscle and Fitness; power-lifting and staying in shape are part of my daily routine, especially out at sea."

Featured on the cover is Lt. Zach Scheetz, who led the ship's embarked explosive ordnance disposal detachment. A video compilation of M&F's stint at sea, as well as exclusive photo galleries, will also be available online at www.muscleandfitness.com.
