FDA Warns Consumers to Stop Use of Hydroxycut Products

May 04, 2009 by Department Of Defense

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is urging consumers to stop use of Hydroxycut products in order to avoid risk of health problems ranging from jaundice to liver damage.

Hydroxycut products, which are dietary supplements marketed as weight-loss aids, are made by Iovate Health Sciences Inc., of Oakville, Ontario, and distributed by Iovate Health Sciences USA Inc. of Blasdell, N.Y. Iovate has agreed to recall Hydroxycut products from the market. Please see the FDA's news release for a list of the recalled products.

If you have used Hydroxycut products, please consult a health care professional if you are exhibiting symptoms of liver injury, including jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes) and brown urine.

The health of the men and women in uniform and their families, as well as the health of our retirees and their families, is important to the Department of Defense. These products are sold over-the-counter and DoD has no record of who may have purchased or is using these products.

Please see FDA.gov for more information on Hydroxycut products.
