Fifteen Cuban Migrants, One Dog Repatriated
U.S. Coast Guard | January 30, 2006
MIAMI - The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Matagorda repatriated 15 Cuban migrants and one dog to Bahia de Cabanăs, Cuba, today. The migrants were intercepted at sea last Tuesday.

The crew of the cutter Reliance spotted the migrants approximately 50 miles southwest of Key West, Fla. at 11:20 p.m. The crew of the Reliance embarked the migrants and dog. The migrant vessel was marked as a hazard to navigation.

The migrants and the dog were transferred from the Reliance to the Matagorda Sunday night.

Once on board Coast Guard cutters, all migrants receive food, water and any necessary medical attention.

- The cutter Matagorda is a 123-foot patrol boat homeported in Key West.

- The cutter Reliance is a 210-foot medium endurance cutter homeported in Portsmouth, N.H.
