The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund
American Legion | December 01, 2007
Opportunity to attend college could be out of reach for children left behind because a parent died while on active duty serving in the US Armed Forces. The American Legion recognized this need and established the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund for those children who lost parent(s) on active duty since September 11, 2001. Recipients of the scholarships hail from a variety of different places across America. Their goals and dreams for an education are being realized and they are now attending the institutions they desired. One recipient of the scholarship fund, Joseph, became aware of the American Legion Legacy Scholarship while attending an American Legion Boys State program. A graduate of Oak Hill High School in Oak Hill, West Virginia Joseph plans on majoring in information technology at West Virginia University. His father was a member of the Army Reserves. Siblings, Erin and Douglas attend the University of Illinois, both recipients of the scholarship fund. Erin is presently a sophomore majoring in animal sciences and Douglas, who is a senior, is majoring in Chemistry. Their father was an officer in the U.S. Air Force. Dreams are being realized. In August of this year, it was with great pleasure that The American Legion announced award-winning country music artist, Michael Peterson had agreed to serve as the national spokesperson for The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund. In his support and commitment to the scholarship fund, Peterson has pledged to donate $5 of every sale of his new DVD to The American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund from his website, irememberamerica.com. We invite you to join in helping to provide a legacy through scholarships for these children. Together we will ensure that no child who has lost a parent to the War on Terror will be prevented from fulfilling dreams of an education. The American Legion, Still Serving America.
