Habitat for Humanity to Build Homes for Veterans
Military.com | Habitat for Humanity | September 06, 2007

Santa Ana, CA – Habitat for Humanity of Orange County is looking for qualified families for 27 homes to be built in San Juan Capistrano, California over the next few years.

  • Fourteen of the homes are being marketed to combat-disabled veterans and their families, and surviving families of veterans.
  • Thirteen of the homes will be marketed to local families who live in Orange County and are looking for decent, affordable, ownership homes.

This neighborhood will provide for military veterans with combat-related disabilities, and their families, a wonderful area in which to raise their families, and a helping hand to achieve the American Dream of homeownership.

Qualification requirements include legal residency in the United States, good credit, and steady income between 30% and 80% of the median income in Orange County.  For example, a family of four would earn a minimum of $36,400, while a family of four earning 80% of median would earn no more than $69,300.

Qualified families will purchase a home, help build it, and then pay closing costs and a long term 0% interest mortgage.

Preference will be given to veteran families who live in Orange County, have family in Orange County or are stationed in Camp Pendleton. If your family is interested in applying or you know of a family that meets the requirements, please contact Nancy at nancy@habitatoc.org or call (714) 434-6200 extension 208 (English) or extension 760 (Spanish).

About Habitat for Humanity of Orange County

Habitat for Humanity of Orange County is dedicated to ending substandard housing and building strong communities. Habitat uses non-government donations of funding, materials, professional services and volunteer labor to build simple, decent homes which are sold to qualified low-income families for closing costs, a 1% down payment and a zero-interest long-term mortgage. Mortgage payments are recycled to build more Habitat homes.

Habitat families contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” to the program by building their own home, helping another Habitat family build a home, or working in some other area of the Habitat organization.

Habitat for Humanity families and volunteers have built 122 homes in Orange County since 1988, have begun construction on four homes in Anaheim and two homes in Fullerton and currently have homes on the drawing board in the cities of Buena Park, San Juan Capistrano, Irvine and Westminster.
