What to Watch... and What to Remember

It's Memorial Day weekend and for sport's junkies, it's quite a time. Racing fans are treated to the tradition rich Indianapolis 500 while NASCAR presents it's longest race of the year, 600 miles at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday. The NBA play-offs are in full-swing (though I don't much car about 'the' league), the Stanley Cup play-offs are down to the final four teams, Detroit leading Chicago 2-1 in the series, while Pittsburgh is one win away, leading 3-0 over Carolina. the PGA, LPGA, Tennis and of course MLB makes this a bery busy weekend. What do we record, what do we watch live? What events do we have to rely on Sportscenter for highlights, or of course the SN site.
But as I stated at the end of my last post, there is something even more important.....remembering those that gave their lives protecting this country. It is very possible that without these folks, we wouldn't have choices to watch whatever sport we want, spend the day with the family, either camping or firing up the barb-q at home with friends or family. Too many Holidays get burried (an ironice choice of words) behind everything else, but this is one that should always be remembered for what it is really all about and just how imporant remembering relatives, family members and everyone else that put their lives first in defending this nation's rights of freedom.
It's also a time to reflect on the lives of family and friends that we have all lost over the years, whether they were lost in the military or by whatever other means.
Please don't take this as preaching from me. I too fall into the category of those that look forward to this Holiday and others as nothing but a three day weekend. But for at least a few minutes I remember for what they really stand for. I hope that all of you can do the same thing.
Then everybody can get back to the things that we take for granted. Maybe each and every day, we should thing about what we all have that others want so much to have. Remember, there is always somebody worse off than you or I are. Always.
Now, enjoy the rest of the weekend, be safe and I hope that all reflect on this for just a moment. Thank you!
Back to the races, games and the eating and drinking!
