Former NFLers Call out QBs on the Hot Seat

NEW YORK -- Quarterbacks on the hot seat. That is a major storyline in the NFL. And some former quarterbacks are watching closely.

On Tuesday, a group of former NFL quarterbacks turned CBS analysts gathered and threw opinions around the way they used to throw footballs -- hard and straight:

-----------------------------------

Brett Favre, Vikings

Phil Simms: "I think the Vikings would've had just as good a record with Tarvaris Jackson at quarterback as they will with Brett Favre. I think Minnesota is a very talented team, and with a running back like Adrian Peterson I think Tarvaris Jackson is the quarterback that fits perfectly with that. We'll see."

-----------------------------------

Tony Romo, Cowboys

Dan Fouts: "The pressure is really going to fall on Romo now, but that's the way it should be. When you're the Dallas Cowboys' quarterback, with that tradition and history, it adds pressure. Deal with it."

-----------------------------------

Carson Palmer, Bengals

Boomer Esiason: "It'll be interesting to see how much more Carson Palmer can take if the Bengals have another bad year. Sooner or later, he's got to take stock of his career and wonder whether he can have the career he envisioned when he got to Cincinnati. They still haven't signed their No. 1 draft pick (Andre Smith), an offensive lineman who's a loop job anyway, and they'll expect him to start when he comes in. It just all works against having success at the highest level of the NFL. I lived it, I know. He's a great talent who is going through the Cincinnati Bengals' car wash, and there's no wax."

-----------------------------------

Michael Vick, Eagles

Simms: "It was a great investment by the Eagles, $1.6 million, and they got the fastest quarterback in the history of the NFL. They get to look at him for one year. It's the deal of deals."

-----------------------------------

Jay Cutler, Bears

Steve Beuerlein: "I think it was great pickup for the Bears, but I do think Jay Cutler has some growing up to do. I know Jay; I think the world of him. But before he can truly take it to the next level, he's got to learn how to be a No. 1 guy, say the right things."
