L.A. Athletes Support Each Other's Teams

Hey, didn't you used to be a Braves ace?
Why Twittering should be allowed in MLB dugouts: So Matt Kemp wouldn't have to ask the grounds crew for updates on the Lakers score. Isn't one L.A. team supporting another L.A. team sweet? Oh yeah, it also gives Fly a chance to shamelessly self promote Sporting News' new Twitter feed: twitter.com/sninsider.
Fly's wondering when "soon" will be as defined by the folks hiring the next Avalanche coach. Woody Paige is against recycling a known NHL coach. His advice: "The next coach should be Manitoba's Scott Arniel, whose Moose (Meese?) are tied 1-1 with the Hershey Bears in the Calder Cup. Arniel was chosen AHL coach of the year." Not a bad choice there.
Update: Turns out soon was soon: 1 day. The Avs have hired Joe Sacco of the AHL.
Move over, Randy Johnson. Move over, Ken Griffey Jr. Move over, Glove. Danielle Lawrie may be Seattle's most dominant athlete ever. "Who?" you might ask. She's a pitcher for the Women's College World Series winning Washington Huskies. Writes Seattle Times scribe Jerry Brewer: "She's Babe Ruth with a ponytail and without the gut."
Speaking of the CWS, the Baseball Hall of Fame wants gear from the Texas Longhorns' win over Boston College in 25 innings during last Saturday's Austin Regional semifinal. Cooperstown wants Longhorns pitcher Austin Wood's baseball cap and 2B Travis Tucker's Louisville slugger from what was the longest baseball game in NCAA Division I history.
Whatever happened to Freddy Adu? He went the way of Ben McDonald and became a second-teamer. The 'American Pele' hasn't turned out to be all that awesome (yet).
