Indians' Swoon puts Wedge on Hot Seat

With the worst record in the American League, Cleveland Indians manager Eric Wedge is feeling the heat.

Members of the Dolan family, which owns the team, were in Chicago on a family trip and watched first-hand back-to-back losses to the Chicago Cubs over the weekend.

Asked if he was considering a managerial change, owner Larry Dolan told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, "I'll talk to you later." When pressed, Dolan said, "I just don't want to lie to you."

Later team president Paul Dolan told the newspaper that exchange didn't imply anything about Wedge's future with the team.

Wedge and GM Mark Shapiro both have been willing to take the blame for the miserable 29-42 record.

In defending Wedge, Shapiro told the newspaper, "If anyone is to blame, it's me. I don't feel one person, coach or manager is responsible for the problems we're having. It's the magnitude of the injuries we've suffered combined with a bullpen that has performed at a very poor level."
