USAF Lieutenant Billed $16M for Cable

A U.S. Air Force lieutenant says Time Warner Cable of Southwest Ohio billed him more than $16 million for March.
Lt. Daniel DeVirgilio told the Dayton Daily News he learned there was a problem when his automatic credit card payment was rejected because his credit limit was not big enough.
"Had I known this I would have bought Showtime," he said. "Five bucks more for Showtime is a bit much, but heck --$16,409,112. Who cares?"
The company blamed the outsize bill, about 20,000 times DeVirgilio's normal $80 monthly charge, on a clerical error. Someone apparently typed in a number incorrectly, generating a computer notice.
Time Warner said he was never actually sent a bill and his account was not charged.
Apparently the mistake was easier to make than to fix. DeVirgilio, an engineer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, said he spent 40 minutes on the telephone straightening out the muddle.
