Veterans Tell Their Experience Through Filmmaking

LOS ANGELES - Mon, Nov 9, 2009, Brave New Foundation will present the launch of OPERATION IN THEIR BOOTS, a Film Fellowship open to Veterans and enlisted service members of the current Iraq and Afghan conflicts, to tell their experiences through the production of their own documentaries.
Richard Ray Perez, Executive Producer of the documentary series In Their Boots, will present information and guidelines of what will be a historical opportunity to capture the impact the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan have had on Veterans and their loved ones with a rare intimacy and communicate experiences that will define a new generation of Veterans.

"We recognize the unique perspective of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and service members and their ability to tell original and compelling stories," says Perez. "Their documentaries will be a testament to how their lives, and the lives of the people around them, have been profoundly impacted by their experience serving in our nation’s current military conflicts."
Five participants will be commissioned and will attend a "Filmmakers Bootcamp", to refine their film skills with a professional production team, and will receive a stipend for their work. The documentaries produced will be non-partisan a non-ideological in nature. All documentaries will be screened publicly. The Fellowship is open to Vets outside Los Angeles. IN THEIR BOOTS, now launching its third season produces a series of documentaries about the impact the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan are having on people here at home. Each episode is available for free viewing online at www.intheirboots.com. Brave New Foundation is a unique organization that creates media that champions social justice. The Foundation inspires communities, organizations and individuals to engage in civic participation, and promotes the democratization of media.
