LOS ANGELES -- New Line is meeting with writers about penning a sixth installment in the "Vacation" movie franchise, sources told The Hollywood Reporter.
The big-screen, family road-trip comedy is to center on the character of Rusty Griswold, the now-grownup son of Chevy Chase's Griswold patriarch, Clark, from the previous movies.
Actors Anthony Michael Hall, Jason Lively, Johnny Galecki and Ethan Embry played the apparently non-aging Rusty in National Lampoon's "Vacation," "European Vacation," "Christmas Vacation" and "Vegas Vacation." The character didn't appear in the TV movie, "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure."
"Wedding Crashers" director David Dobkin is attached to produce and possibly direct the upcoming feature, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said Tuesday.
Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, who played Rusty's parents in the original movies, reportedly may appear in the new film, however, no deals are in place yet.
