Weaponology – Season 2
World Premieres Tuesdays at 10 PM

The 14-episode second season of WEAPONOLOGY looks at the technology used by special military units such as the Navy SEALs and the French Foreign Legion.  Each episode starts with a recent mission and takes a look back over the genesis of the unit, at the battles it fought and at how its weapon’s kit evolved to tackle the particular missions with which it is currently charged.

Waffen SS
December 4 at 10 PM TV-14

Between 1933 and 1945, a small group of German bodyguards armed with knives and batons evolved into a fighting force of 38 divisions and nearly one million strong.  Today, they are stained forever by the memory of the horrific atrocities committed by their soldiers and their Einsatzgruppen death squads.  However, Waffen SS was the first unit to get the legendary Tiger tank, the groundbreaking Vampyr infra-red sight and the Stg44 assault rifle.  This episode looks at the weapons and tactics that made the Waffen SS one of the most feared units in military history.

U.S. Airborne

U.S. Airborne units are America's sky soldiers – from infantryman to engineer, every soldier is airborne-qualified.  This episode explores the aircraft used by this unit during World War II through today’s 101st Airborne Division’s mobile arsenal of Chinook and Blackhawk helicopters.  This episode also highlights the U.S. Airborne’s deadliest of weapons: the parachute, which enables the solders to surprise and overwhelm their target from the sky.  WEAPONOLOGY travels through time, hitting the drop zone with the U.S. Airborne, the original band of brothers.

U.S. Army Rangers

Rangers – the elite infantry of the U.S. Army – have some of the best equipment in the Army’s arsenal.  This episode examines the U.S. Army Ranger’s weapons kit: unmanned aerial vehicles that transmit real-time reconnaissance and intelligence information directly to the unit commanders; state-of-the-art GPS systems called ‘Grenadier Brats’ that give unsurpassed navigational accuracy; and the 84mm Ranger Antitank Weapons System that fires a variety of high explosive and armor piercing rounds, punching holes through the toughest armor and fortifications.

The Air Force emerged from Vietnam with a renewed purpose, initiating extensive training regimens and new aircraft development.  This episode explores the new technologies that shifted the Air Force to space and beyond.
