The Worms series spans a decade and has versions in almost all of the major gaming platforms. "Worms: A Space Oddity" now brings most of the fun of worm-battling to the Nintendo Wii, which combines its traditional two-dimensional gameplay with an innovative control system.
This game involves turn-based fights between up to four teams of worms. You're given a list of weapons and tools to use against each other. Success depends on accumulating weapons, avoiding injury and developing an effective strategy. The last team standing wins.
Rating: 6.5 out of 10, fair
The good: The adaptation of the game to the Wii remote is remarkable. Multiplayer matches are fun.
The bad: Known for its kookiness, "Space Oddity" is lacking in the creativity department. There are a lot of standard weapons, such as bazookas, but the variety is limited. While the game had potential, the lack of online play is disappointing.
The bottom line: Worms for Wii is nowhere near as epic as it was for PC. Smaller maps with fewer worms means less carnage and cartoon mayhem. While a good game, it doesn't live up to what Worms could be.
