Classification: G

When Wipeout Pure was launched with the PlayStation Portable, it was an exhilarating futuristic racing game with a backdrop of fast- paced, techno music. Wipeout Pulse continues that trend.
A key skill to learn early in Wipeout Pulse is using the air brakes, which will turn you through the twisties on each course much faster and smoother -- get it wrong and you'll end up grinding along the walls of the course, wearing down your fragile racer's energy shields.
Race tracks are littered with power ups -- ranging from energy shields to heat-seeking missiles -- and launch pads that will catapult your racer along the track.
A new concept is the grid system where if you earn enough points in races that you want to take part in, the next event is unlocked. It makes for a less frustrating time and with 235 races over 16 grids with 12 different craft, you'll have a lot to choose from.
There's not a lot to dislike about Wipeout Pulse, and each race craft handles differently, creating exciting races.
Presentation is excellent, with vivid graphics and neat effects, the racing is fast-paced and the game is a fantastic diversion.
