'RESISTANCE RETRIBUTION'
Sony PlayStation Portable
ESRB rating: Mature
Review rating: 4.5 stars (out of 5)
Sony introduced the "Resistance" franchise to take advantage of the PlayStation 3's hardware, and the series became so popular that a PlayStation Portable version has been released. In case you're wondering, "Resistance Retribution" isn't a mere port of "Resistance 1 or 2" with toned-down features. In fact, this excellent title follows a new hero armed with new weapons and introduces a highly effective cover system.
The story of "RR" is set between the events of the first two titles and follows the exploits of British Marine James Grayson as he initiates a genocidal rampage to avenge the death of his brother.
Controlling shooters on the PSP is usually frustrating because it only has one analog stick, but the developers have included an auto- target mode to make combat more intuitive. In addition, a handy cover system that automatically places the character behind cover and pops him out to fire his weapon helps keep combat fast and fluid.
Add several fun eight-player local and online multiplayer modes to the explosive mix and "Resistance Retribution" becomes the best shooter available on the PlayStation Portable.
