Game Review: "Call of Duty 4"

THE first Call of Duty game reinvented the World War II shooting game.
It added a Hollywood-style feel and injected some much-needed realism.
Designers Infinity Ward really pushed the boundaries for their second instalment, giving the game a graphic oomph. For the third game they handed over design duties to someone else - and it all went a bit wrong.
Never mind, they were busy creating Mk 4. Set in a modern scenario, this game is a must if you're a shooter fan.
Graphically, it is simply amazing. The levels in a fictitious Middle Eastern country are the best. Here, the lighting is fantastic, almost photo-realistic.
The single player mode involves some nationalist Russians and a Middle East dictator, and you get to play as a member of the SAS or as an American Marine.
But it's in multiplayer mode that the game shines, with a staggering 16 maps for you to play against your friends.
The more games you play, and win, the more you can customise your character, either with better weapons or better skills.
You'd think we'd had enough of shooting games but this full-throttle thrill ride just keeps you wanting more.
