BRITISH intelligence agency is looking to recruit the next generation of spies from video game enthusiasts.
Government Communications Headquarters is planting adverts inside computer games. They will appear as billboards in the fictional landscape of espionage-inspired adventures. GCHQ, the surveillance arm of the intelligence services, is spending tens of thousands on the month-long campaign.
A spokesman said the agency wanted to reach computer-savvy, technologically able and quick-thinking potential recruits. 'We find increasingly we have to use less conventional means of attracting people,' he said. 'We are ready to change our recruitment methods.' GCHQ hopes to 'plant the idea in the heads of younger players' of pursuing a career in the secret services. The move follows on from MI5 advertising for staff on the sides of London buses.
