Police Collect DVDs, Games for Troops

Mike Holtzclaw - Daily Press

SUFFOLK - Police officers in Suffolk are trying to help a colleague deployed in Kuwait who is working to collect DVDs, board games and video game systems to be used by troops waiting to return home from deployment.

Suffolk police lieutenant Janet Brandsasse, currently assigned to Navy Customs Battalion Tango, is looking to stock the "Freedom Tent," a stopover for troops on their way home. In an email home, she described how troops from all branches of the military, waiting to go home from the Middle East, will sometimes spend 12 hours in the Freedom Tent with little to help them relax and pass the time.

Members of the Suffolk Police Department have begun collecting used DVDs, board games and video gaming systems. Everything collected before Dec. 15 will be sent along to stock the Freedom Tent.

Anyone wanting to donate items for "Operation: Movie Time for the Troops" can drop them off at any Suffolk police precinct or at the headquarters at 120 N. Wellons Street.
