NetEase to Take Over WoW Player Accounts from The9
Jun 01, 2009
Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq: ATVI) has reached consensus with The9 Limited (Nasdaq: NCTY) on the handover of World of Warcraft (WoW)'s player accounts, NetEase.com Inc. (Nasdaq: NTES) disclosed on May 30, 2009.
On June 7 before the existing WoW servers are shut down in Mainland China, the transition team will copy data in a bid to restore players' game state after the new servers restart operation.
However, because of the complexity of data management, technology failures might occur to the accounts of some individual players, which will be specially treated by the transition team.
In mid April, after NetEase.com announced the takeover of the exclusive operating right of WoW in the mainland from The9, players began worrying about the safety of their accounts.
On April 23, some players found bugs while playing WoW. A week later, NetEase.com was said to give up data from The9. On May 12, The9 reportedly announced the right to delete player accounts unilaterally.
