NINTENDO Wii game players can shed 6lbs in a year while playing, university researchers have found.
Astudy of the motion-sensor game systems shows they can encourage overweight children to become more active.
Experts at Liverpool John Moores University (JMU) monitored the energy levels of 13-15-year olds playing virtual games like tennis and boxing on the Wii.
On average they burned up to 60 calories more an hour, compared with those playing the passive XBOX 360.
Gareth Stratton, Professor in Paediatric Exercise Science, said: "What is good about active gaming is that it gets children up on their feet, moving in all directions and performing basic motor skills."
