Cleaning House More Effective than Wii Fit

It was supposed to help us get fit in our living rooms.
But it seems we are better off vacuuming the area than working out with a Nintendo Wii Fit. Playing the 'virtual gym' game burns just 25 calories in ten minutes, compared with 34 calories while cleaning the bathroom and 42 calories vacuuming, experts told consumer watchdog. Which? Computing.
A treadmill uses 115 calories in ten minutes, they added.
Researcher Andrew Colley, a personal trainer, said: 'The amount of calories you burn depends on how much you weigh and how hard you work.
'Using a treadmill will burn more calories because you are standing up and taking your own body weight, and using your upper body as well.' And Dr Gareth Stratton, professor of paediatric exercise science at Liverpool John Moores University, added 'real activities', such as a brisk walk or actual tennis match, are best because they use more energy than virtual games.
More than 22.5million copies of the Wii Fit have been sold.
Developed for the Wii console, it has 50 games, including tennis and boxing, and comes with a 'balance board' used to work out and monitor body mass index. The package costs about Pounds 230.
The Wii Fit Plus - which has additional balance and aerobic games, as well as a calorie counter - is the first computer game to be backed by the Department of Health's Change4Life campaign.
