Book Review: One Second After

One Second After is probably the most frightening book that I've read all year, and I've read quite a bit of Stephen King and miscellaneous zombie fiction lately. What sets this book apart is that it is based upon a very real threat: the prospect of an atmospheric nuclear blast over the Continental U.S. creating an electro-magnetic pulse (EMP) that destroys the power grid and casts the country back to the mid-1800's from a technological standpoint. This book is based upon solid scientific research and the ramifications are astounding.
Imagine a scenario where every electronic item you owned is rendered useless, from your ipod to your automobile. The power grid goes down and transportation stops. Government fails, people begin to starve or die from lack of medication and chaos ensues. This book is a real page turner.
