Rowling Fairytales Becoming Christmas Bestseller

London - The Tales of Beedle The Bard by Harry Potter- author JK Rowling have generated 4.2 million pounds (6.3 million dollars) for charity after just a week on sale, figures showed Wednesday.

The charity Children's High Level Group (CHLG), which helps abandoned children in institutions across Eastern Europe, said 2.6 million copies of the hand-illustrated tales had sold in the first week after publication on December 4.

The book was on track to become a Christmas bestseller, it said.

"I am absolutely delighted that so much money has been raised," Rowling said Wednesday. I would like to thank everyone who has so far purchased a copy of the book."

She repeated that all royalties will be going to "help children without families, many of them with disabilities, whose voices have been unheard for many years."
