Airman Writes Children Books
Oct 12, 2009
Staff Sgt. Daniel Stahl has two children, Abby, 4, and John, 2, and he said he wanted a book for them with strong roots in Christian principles and values.
So Stahl, a database manager stationed at Tyndall Air Force Base, took matters into his own hands and wrote his own children's book, "Who Knows What God Knows."
"I guess I just wanted to push them in the right direction," Stahl said of his reasons for writing the short book.
Author House published the book in March.
On its Web site, Author House describes itself as leading provider of selfpublishing and book marketing services worldwide, with more than 60,000 titles released since 1997.
Stahl said the entire process, from writing the book to releasing it, took about four months.
He acknowledged the process of putting the book together became a family affair.
The book's front cover is an illustration drawn by Stahl's uncle, Mark Kreiss, and features Abby with her arms folded behind her head as she looks into the sky.
Kreiss worked on the illustration, using photos taken of Stahl's daughter, over the course of a couple of weeks, Stahl said.
Stahl said his father, David, has published three Christian-themed inspirational books and helped steer him to Author House.
David Stahl also wrote a lengthy forward to the book.
The book' structure involves a question on one page, such as, "Who knows why the snail is slow?"
On the next page comes the answer: "Nobody knows why the snail is slow, it's just slow."
Stahl said a lot of the questions raised in the book came from his daughter in normal, everyday conversations.
"The general idea of the book is, sometimes we don't know things. We rely on God that he knows those things," Stahl said.
He said he wanted to impress upon parents the importance of being open to what their kids had to offer.
Stahl's wife, Sarah, said that it didn't take long for her daughter to embrace the book.
"She loved it right away. It was easy for her to memorize," Sarah Stahl said of her daughter.
"Who Knows What God Knows" can be found and purchased on Amazon.com.
