MIAMI -- Rear Adm. Jake Korn, Coast Guard 7th District commander, temporarily relieved Capt. Ric Rodriguez, commander of Coast Guard Sector Charleston, Monday due to loss of confidence in his abilities to command.

The deputy sector commander, Cmdr. Brian Falk, has assumed temporary command of Sector Charleston. Rodriguez has been reassigned to Coast Guard Atlantic Area Command in Portsmouth, Va.

Sector Charleston is the regional operational command overseeing Coast Guard activities across South Carolina and Georgia. The sector includes 11 field units and more than 1,629 active duty, reserve, civilian and auxiliary personnel.
