Coast Guard Spouse Recognized for Outstanding Service

HONOLULU -- Michelle Sneller was recognized as the 2014 Outstanding Military Spouse for the 14th Coast Guard District during a ceremony at Honolulu City Hall, Thursday.

Sneller is the wife of Chief Petty Officer Jerrod Sneller, an operations specialist at Sector Honolulu. She serves as the unit ombudsman for Sector Honolulu and several Coast Guard units within the14th Coast Guard District. She also serves as the District 14 ombudsman coordinator mentoring and assisting every unit ombudsman throughout the Pacific.

The Coast Guard ombudsman program is a Coast Guard-wide program established to help commanding officers and officers-in-charge better understand the welfare of the command and unit's families. The program also helps to better prepare families to meet emergency situations.

The Hawaii Navy League recognized spouses from each branch of the military. The recipients of this year's awards have functioned as the volunteer communication and organizational focal point for units that were or are deployed in the theater of hostile operations during the calendar year of 2014.

The Navy League will present a cash award of $500 to each winner. The spouses will also receive a certificate from theHawaii State Legislature and proclamation from the City and County of Honolulu. Both the certificate and the $500 check will be presented to the spouses during the military appreciation football game at Aloha Stadium, Saturday.

Hawaii's Outstanding Military Spouse Awards Program is sponsored by the Hawaii Navy League. This is the 10th year that the Navy League has taken the initiative to honor spouses of service members deployed abroad.
