MIAMI — Nine suspected migrants were rescued Monday in the water near Turkey Point in Biscayne Bay, Florida as Coast Guard and partner agencies continue to search for two people in the water.
The crew aboard the tug boat Eagle notified Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders of a man in the water clinging to debris shortly after 10 a.m. Monday.
A Coast Guard MH-65 Helicopter crew from Air Station Miami, a small boat crew from Coast Guard Station Miami Beach and the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Yered were launched to respond to the scene. A Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew was diverted to assist in the search.
Partner agency crews from Customs and Border Protection, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Biscayne National Park, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and Miami-Dade Police were also launched to assist.
Three suspected migrants were rescued from the water by a Miami-Dade Air Rescue helicopter crew. Two of the men rescued were transported to Mercy Hospital in Miami for further medical care. The third man was transported to Tamiami Executive Airport in Kendall, Florida where he was turned over to Customs and Border Protection officials.
Five people were rescued from the water and safely transported to the cutter Yered and are currently being evaluated by the cutter crew.
Customs and Border Protection officials located two suspected migrants on the shore of Elliot Key, Florida.
After searching for several hours, Coast Guard watchstanders were notified by a good Samaritan who located a person in the water near Fowey Rocks Light. The suspected migrant was rescued from the water and transferred to a Coast Guard crew. The man was taken to Coast Guard Base Miami Beach, Florida and later transferred to an EMS crew for further medical attention.
Coast Guard and partner agencies continue to search for two suspected migrants in the vicinity of Biscayne Bay.
