Coast Guard Aids Pleasure Boat to Shore off Maine

BOOTHBAY HARBOR, Maine -- A pleasure boat that was taking on water off Squirrel Island was aided to shore by a Coast Guard crew Wednesday afternoon.

William Armstrong, chief of the Coast Guard'sBoothbay Harbor station, said two people were on board at the time of the incident. Both were wearing life jackets.

Armstrong said the Coast Guard's 25-foot vessel was able to escort the pleasure boat to a marina on Squirrel Island, where the boat was expected to be repaired.

The names of the people on board the boat were not available. Squirrel Island is off Southport in Lincoln County.

In addition to life jackets, the boaters had radio and cellphone communication, which was pivotal in the Coast Guard's quick response.

"The key with this instance is they were able to get ahold of us very easily," Armstrong said.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
