U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. -- The 10th Security Forces Squadron will implement changes to several manned gates throughout the installation beginning July 1 as a result of ongoing manpower reductions across the Air Force.

The biggest change will be to North Gate operations and could have an impact on the general public as well as USAFA employees, residents and cadets.

North Gate visitor access hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., reducing daily public access by two hours. This change will balance security needs and the desire to remain open for public access, and align hours with the Barry Goldwater Visitor Center and the Cadet Chapel operating hours.

In addition, North Gate operating hours for Department of Defense identification cardholders will be will be 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The gate will no longer remain open on weekends until 1:30 a.m. Anyone entering or departing the base after 10 p.m. will need to go to the South Gate.

Security Forces will also reduce manning hours at two interior gates which are only accessible to DoD ID cardholders.

The gate located between Vandenberg Hall and the Athletic facilities will be manned from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday. This gate can be accessed all other times using USAFA-issued Common Access Cards.

The gate located behind Sijan Hall will be manned from 6 - 9 a.m. Monday - Friday and will be accessible using USAFA-issued Common Access Cards all other times.
