SAN ANTONIO -- The Navy Medicine Training Support Center (NMTSC) command master chief was relieved by the NMTSC commanding officer June 2.

Master Chief Hospital Corpsman Shanon Best was relieved by Capt. Joel Roos, MC, USN, during a captain's mast he conducted at the NMTSC headquarters at Joint Base San Antonio - Fort Sam Houston for Driving While Intoxicated and failing to report his arrest.

NMTSC serves as the Navy component command to the Hospital Corps Schools at the Medical Education & Training Campus (METC) and other medical programs in the San Antonio, Texas, area, providing administrative and operational control over Navy staff and students.

Master Chief Hospital Corpsman Melissa Foster was selected as the new CMC effective immediately.

Roos said the actions were difficult, but necessary, as those entrusted with leadership are required to exemplify the behaviors we expect from those we lead.

NMTSC is an echelon 4 command reporting to the Navy Medicine Education and Training Command, which reports to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED).
