"SMASH" is the pen-name of a U.S. Navy Reserve officer who served in a maritime security detachment in Kuwait during the initial months of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His website, "L.T. SMASH: Live From the Sandbox" was one of the first military weblogs to achieve wide readership. SMASH entertained readers back home with stories of living in a military camp, the trials and tribulations of dealing with egotistical superiors and smart-aleck subordinates, and even the occasional haiku.

Since returning from his tour of duty in the Sandbox, SMASH has been promoted to Lieutenant Commander, although many of his readers still affectionately refer to him as "L.T." He resides in sunny San Diego, where he works full time as a project manager and husband to the Most Beautiful Woman on Earth. His post-war weblog, "The Indepundit," continues to entertain readers with posts on wide-ranging topics including popular culture, politics, and military issues.
