Members of the National Guard or Selected Reserve, devote one weekend each month, extended training periods and serve the war effort by augmenting the active-duty U.S. military. In return Guard and reserve members receive regular drill pay and other benefits. Each "Drill Weekend" counts as 4 Drill Periods for pay purposes. National Guard or Selected Reserve, may also be eligible for special pays and allowances while serving in an active duty status.
