3rd Force Recon 50th Anniversary
A 50th Anniversary Reunion to celebrate the formation of the Company, will be held from 6-10 May, at MCB, Quantico. 1. The two hotels that have reserved rooms are the Marriott Courtyard (40 rooms), located in Stafford, Virginia, and The Crossroads Inn, (30 rooms) located aboard the base at MCB, Quantico. Each hotel has its own website for any additional information. They are easy to locate on Google. 2. Wednesday, the 6th of May, is planned as an "arrival day" with no scheduled activities planned. Each hotel has a hospitality suite reserved for the attendees. 3. Thursday, the 7th of May begins with a trip out to Camp Upshar for a combat convoy simualtion demonstarion; a Command brief and lunch at The Basic School. A visit to the Raider Museum, located at TBS, is planned, and then a visit to HMX-1, the Presidential Helicopter Squadron, for a Command Brief, Osprey display, and a visit to their gift shop. Thursday evening is a buffet dinner at Major Rick Spooner's Globe & Laurel Restaurant, which is located within walking distance and "just down the hill" from the Marriott Courtyard Hotel. 4. Friday will begin with the observance of Colors, at 0800, aboard the Base at Lejeune Hall. There will be a non-lethal weapons briefing and demonstration, followed by a trip to Larson Gym for a briefing and dispaly of various USMC aircraft being restored to museum quality. Lunch will be at the Quantico SNCO Club. The afternoon will be busy with a guided tour of the Vietnam Memorial War, the World War II Memorial, and Korean War Memeorial. Friday evening will be the observance of the Evening Prade at Marine Barracks, 8th & I. 5. Saturday, the 9th of May is planned as a visit to the National Museum of the Marine Corps, from 09000-1400, with guided tours, and then the culminating event will be a buffet dinner at the Potomac Point Vineyard, located in Staffiord, VA, about 4 miles from the Marriott Courtyard Hotel, from 18:00 to 22:30. 6. Honored Guests include: General Joe Dunford, USMC, CMC. General Al Gray, 29th CMC, USMC MajGen Larry Nicholson, USMC, CG, 1st MarDiv. 7. The cost is $135.00 per person. 8. The cost will pay for the two hospitality suites, dinner at The Globe & Laurel on Thursday, the renting of the Potomac Point Vineyard, the dinner at the Vineyard, and the cost of musical entertainment during and after dinner. 9. 3/2 AQ/Habbaniyah Reunion
I am organizing a Reunion for 3rdBN 2ndMAR for May of 2015 in honor of both our 2005 and 2006 deployments to Iraq. I have been in contact with the Marine Corps Museum in Virginia and I think this would be a great location for the Reunion. Date is set for Saturday May 24th, 2015. This month marks ten years for the kickoff of Operation Matador. Though the reunion is being held on this date, I have decided to do a combined reunion for both the 05 and 06 deployments. It only makes since to do one big one instead of two small ones in back to back years. It is Memorial Day weekend that weekend so there will be plenty of things to see and do. We can do the Museum on Saturday followed by the Reunion dinner at night and on Sunday we can nurse our hangovers and maybe do a trip the Arlington Cemetery or go see the sights. Chris Lafave is working on finding a hotel with reasonable rates that can accommodate a large block. He knows the DC area very well. Any suggestions or comments about hotels please post on here or email Chris @ Cllafave@gmail.com All 3/2 Marines and Sailors who participated in either deployment, or both, are invited to join fellow Betio Bastards. I am working on setting up a reception dinner on May 24th at the Museum which can hold up to 700 people in it's main ballroom. Lodging and other information will be updated as soon as I have coordinated with the Museum. Guest Speakers: I am working on getting a couple of guest speakers for the reunion. One for each deployment, Maybe Col. Mundy for 2005 and Sgt Major Menning from 2006. Feel free to make suggestions as well. ROUGH COSTS: Just a ballpark figure, It looks like ticket prices will be between $60 and $70 dollars. All depends on how many people are expected. I was told if we can get enough to attend, we can bump that price down. Price includes a dinner reception with CASH bar and admission to the Museum for the entire weekend. Please spread the word to all members and fellow Bastards. 10 years has come and gone and I know it would probably do a lot of good for the Marines and Sailors if we got together for a good time. Note: Gold Star parents are more than welcome to attend as well.
