Comments: Happy Holidays Just an update on the progress. We have identified a hotel. I have not talked live to Brenda yet but will shortly. Brenda is our representative with the group that specializes in helping to make arrangements and make it all happen. As I indicated in one of my last, Brenda was working on the the Hotels for us and got back with John Harris and I today. Last week they made the trip to Durham NC to visit all of the properties/hotels that expressed an interest in the reunion and met the reunion criteria (keep in mind that not all hotels are interested in a group of unknown size). Five hotels did respond and all 5 reviewed, the Marriott, Doubletree, Sheraton Four Points, Hilton Garden Inn, and the Wyndham are the five hotels that were interested, met the criteria, and submitted a bid. All five hotels could have been used, but everything considered, the Wyndham was the choice. When they considered quality, room rates, meal prices, meeting, banquet and hospitality space, complimentary airport shuttle service and free parking, none of the other properties came close (except possibly for the Marriott which did not have the dates we needed). So, based on the findings we will use the Wyndham for the USS Durham reunion May 21-24, 2009.You can visit the Wyndham website to see more of the hotel details. They met with the staff there and were impressed with their sincere desire to be our host. The Sales Director has experience with military reunions in the Boston area and is well acquainted with the unique requirements of a reunion. They strongly feel this is the best choice and look forward to a great reunion there. They also met with Chelsey Didsbury from the Convention & Visitors Bureau to discuss ways the city can become involved with the reunion. She cannot of course commit to actions that the city officials might take, but she can be our ?voice? to them. She is most willing to assist us, and from that perspective, I think we hit ?pay dirt? with her. In the January/February time line John Harris and I will visit the Durham Wyndham. Brenda asked me to convey that they are truly looking forward to this reunion. We hope to have the proposed registration packet for review shortly after the first of the year Happy Holidays & A Safe & Joyful New Year
